About CASA House and Adolescent Day Program

CASA House
You will be part of a team that provides individual, group and family therapy, social and life skills training, and on-site schooling in small classroom settings. CASA House is a live-in program for teens who need support with significant mental health and/or addiction challenges. Teens stay at CASA House for an average of four months.

Adolescent Day Program (ADP)
You will be part of a team that provides mental health services to teens within a day program setting. ADP works with teens who are facing serious mental health or addiction challenges to improve their social and learning skills. You will help them build on their strengths and develop new skills. Teens attend the program daily during the school year.

Salary/Wage range: $40.20 to $50.95 per hour
Vacation: 15 days
Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day

About the Role

The Concurrent Counsellor works collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to enhance access to services, ensure seamless transitions, and improve outcomes for children and youth through an integrated model of care. The Concurrent Counsellor must provide recovery-oriented, goal-focused mental health and substance/process use assessment and treatment of children and youth with co-occurring concerns. The Concurrent Counsellor must also provide psychoeducation and support to children and youth impacted by substance use in their family and consultation to parents, as well as the broader CASA team.


The Concurrent Counsellor will:
  • Provide services unique to the appropriate professional discipline (psychology, social work, nursing, occupational therapy).
  • Provide person-focused, holistic, recovery-oriented, culturally-guided, strengths-based, and trauma-informed assessments/treatment.
  • Contribute to the co-development of collaborative care plans and provide a range of services appropriate to the child/youth and their families or caregivers to meet the mental health and substance/process use concerns identified in partnership with the broader team.
  • Support development of reflective capacity by conjointly creating and monitoring recovery-oriented goals and adapting care plans as needed, whilst prioritizing the inclusion of diverse needs and strengths in the goals.
  • Co-Facilitate psycho-educational, support, and treatment groups for adolescents and parents.
  • Working alongside the Mental Health Therapist, carry out case management functions including convening case conferences and liaising with community services and other professionals involved with the youth and family (especially education, social services, justice, and health), ensuring to advocate for social inclusion and address social determinants.
  • Advocate on behalf of the youth and family as appropriate and promote self-determination and autonomy development. Meet youth and families at their starting point, which may include community-based meetings and supportive sessions to build change readiness and motivation.
  • Contribute to staff knowledge and understanding of discipline-specific issues.
  • Participate regularly and constructively in program and clinical team meetings.
  • Contribute to the development and use of performance indicators and other activities related to continuous quality improvement.

  • Respect and understanding of confidentiality/ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personal and sensitive information.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records or similar information systems.
  • Strong knowledge and skills in behavior management techniques.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree (that permits registration under the Health Professions Act) with course work and/or post graduate training in Substance Use Treatment or Concurrent Disorders and/or work experience providing direct services in the addiction medicine field.
  • One to two years of experience providing Substance Use Counselling in community or tertiary setting. Tertiary experience is preferred.
  • Experience applying modalities such as Motivational Interviewing, CBT, Stages of Change, Systems Theory, and/or harm reduction.
  • Experience working in collaborative care models and/or with multi-disciplinary teams is preferred.
  • Experience in assessment and treatment of addiction type behaviours and/or disorders.
  • Experience in managing diverse and complex caseloads.
  • Practical experience in a children’s mental health treatment setting is preferred.

Certificates and/or License(s)
  • Must maintain active registration under the Health Professions Act.
  • Must maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) and be physically able to perform all interventions.
  • Additional training or coursework in child and adolescent mental health, trauma-informed care or behaviour management is beneficial for roles specializing in child and youth services.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic techniques and interventions relevant to child development and mental health is advantageous.

Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
