Wage range: $44.03 - $56.50 + an additional $9/hour CASA Classrooms premium
Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day

About the Role

Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Mental Health Therapist works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team, school administrators, community service providers and caregivers to provide timely, wrap-around clinical service delivery in the Comprehensive School-Based Mental Health Program in partnership with First Nation and Métis schools.

The Mental Health Therapist will:
  • Conduct comprehensive bio-psycho-social-spiritual mental health assessments of assigned preschoolers, children and adolescents.
  • Formulate diagnoses as appropriate, using the DSM-V and/or other diagnostic tools.
  • Work closely with Elders and Knowledge Keepers from the communities we serve.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational group sessions on general mental health topics for school staff, caregivers and community service providers.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of First Nation and Métis school division partners.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, professionals, caregivers, Elders and Knowledge Keepers to develop holistic patient care plans and support successful transitions.
  • Participate in school and community events, including traditional ceremonies and cultural events.
  • Provide coverage for the Kipohtakaw Education Centre Mental Health Therapist.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work or occupational therapy, or, a bachelor’s degree in social work or a related discipline such as psychology or social sciences, with a minimum of three years of related experience in an educational or mental health setting.
  • Active registration and in good standing with Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW), College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) or Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).
  • A minimum of two years clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
  • Access to cultural and spiritual knowledge and training is provided.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Must maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) and be physically able to perform all interventions.
