CASA Mental Health is an established non-profit organization delivering holistic, culturally-safe wrap-around mental health services to Albertans and their families. CASA services the missing middle – mental health treatment for diagnosed children and youth, in between prevention and promotion in primary and community care, and acute treatment in hospital.

CASA’s team of mental health professionals are trauma experts committed to delivering service in collaboration with community partners. This includes assessment and treatment for thousands of children, youth and families each year, from community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.

About the Day Programs
CASA Mental Health’s Day Programs provide individually-tailored therapies through a variety of modalities, while also offering education in a small, therapeutic classroom setting. The family and care team work together to support the child or youth’s social, emotional, academic and physical development. Children and youth are encouraged to strengthen their existing abilities and develop new skills. Areas of focus include social skills, academic functioning, and emotional and sensory awareness. Students attend the program daily during the school year.

About the Role
The Therapy Support Assistant works with a multidisciplinary team to promote the mental health, adaptive behaviour, educational success, and well-being of children, adolescents and families. The Therapy Support Assistant provides timely behavioural analysis, modification, and coaching for patients with chronic or severe mental health challenges and their families. With a focus on assessment, treatment, behavioural analysis, case review, therapeutic intervention and consultation, this position works closely with the clinical team to support screening, case management, delivery of treatment and achievement of treatment plan.

The Therapy Support Assistant will:

Assist in developing and implementing individual treatment plans for children and youth with internalizing and externalizing difficulties, using a variety of treatment approaches with a heavy emphasis on effective, evidence-based principles.
Participate in family therapy sessions and other patient-related meetings, such as program progress reviews and discharge meetings, as required.
Implement therapeutic models of individual, group and family therapy.
Participate in the case management of assigned caseload.
Provide hands-on modelling and coaching to family members as determined by the Mental Health Therapist and guided by the treatment plan.
Assist in group facilitation as required (co-facilitation or participation, set up and take down, observation and note-taking).
Attend staff planning sessions, patient case conferences and patient meetings to provide information.
Complete relevant electronic medical record documentation.
Collaborate with teams to ensure treatment plans and reports are complete.
Use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

Degree in social work, child and youth care, early childhood education or a related discipline such as psychology or social sciences.
Related experience in an educational or mental health setting.
Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
Experience with mood concerns, learning disabilities, executive dysfunction and/or personality disorder traits is preferred.

Conditions of Employment

A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
