About the Triage, Navigation and Transitions Program

You will be a part of a team that works with families beginning their journey, and those who are ready to transition out of CASA Mental Health into the community. The program is designed to eliminate gaps in services, while offering a streamlined intake experience and a warm hand-off to community partners. The program improves the patient’s journey through CASA Mental Health, as well as service providers’ experience at CASA, by ensuring the right patient is accessing the right service or program at the right time.

Salary/Wage range: $44.03 to $56.50 per hour
Vacation: 9 days
Shift structure:  3 days a week, 7.25 hours per day

About the Role
The Mental Health Therapist works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the success of clinical service delivery. The Mental Health Therapist will provide timely mental health assessment, treatment service options and interventions to children, adolescents and their families. They will coordinate referral and discharge transitions to programs and services within CASA and the community. They will also promote collaborative relationships with community partners.


The Mental Health Therapist will:
  • Conduct comprehensive bio-psycho-social mental health assessments of assigned preschoolers, children and adolescents.
  • Develop a treatment plan and formulate a diagnosis, when applicable, using the DSM-5-TR and other diagnostic tools as appropriate.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions to support the patient in achieving therapeutic goals utilizing a variety of developmentally appropriate treatment approaches.
  • Make appropriate referrals to in-house clinical programs/services to inform treatment planning and diagnostic clarification.
  • Carry out case management functions including convening case conferences and liaising with community services and other professionals involved with the client and family.
  • Advocate on behalf of the child and family as appropriate.
  • Be an active and contributing member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team, focused on assessment, treatment, diagnostic formulation and referral services, including transition to community partners and services.
  • Provide preceptorship for student placements.
  • Engage in research and best practice.
  • Comply with CASA standards and vision.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong grasp of the principles of evidence-based practice.
  • Knowledge and experience in the following therapeutic modalities: DBT, family interventions, crisis intervention, solution-focused therapy, CBT and motivational interviewing.
  • Knowledge and experience supporting families connected with children services and/or family support services is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience supporting the healing of children and youth who have experienced trauma.
  • Experience supporting the mental health of children and youth who identify as LGBTQ2S+.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team to build consensus.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records or similar information systems.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work or occupational therapy. A bachelor’s degree in nursing will also be considered.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
  • Must be a member in good standing with their respective professional association or college.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
