About the Comprehensive School-Based Mental Health Program (CSBMHP)
As part of the CSBMHP team, you will work with schools in First Nation and Métis communities to provide mental health support and education for Indigenous children and teens. You will also teach and advise the school leaders and teachers.

About the Role
The Therapy Support Assistant (TSA) works with a multidisciplinary team to promote the mental health, adaptive behaviour, educational success, and well-being of children, adolescents and families. The TSA works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team, First Nation and Métis school administrations, and community partners to deliver timely, Indigenous-informed services in Specialized Therapeutic Classrooms (STC). Serving children, adolescents and families primarily from Alexander, Alexis Nakoda Sioux, Enoch Cree and Paul Nations, the TSA works under the guidance of the Mental Health Therapist to implement treatment plans and provide daily coaching and therapeutic support to patients. The role of the TSA is to promote the daily integration of individual mental health strategies that support social, emotional and behavioural function.

The Therapy Support Assistant will:

• Assist in the development and implementation of individual treatment plans for children or adolescents with internalizing and externalizing difficulties using a variety of treatment approaches with a heavy emphasis on effective, evidence-based cognitive and behavioural principles.
• Support Indigenous-informed serviced delivery through the implementation of culturally integrated practice that includes Indigenous ways of knowing, healing, ceremony, culture and spirituality.
• Work as part of the interdisciplinary team, supporting case management and the development and implementation of holistic patient care plans.
• Be responsible for the development and implementation of individual and targeted group programming, fostering opportunities for social-emotional learning, cultural connection and adaptive coping.
• Work to develop collaborative relationships with community service providers, Elders and Knowledge Keepers, including accessing cultural resources.
• Engage in classroom observations and complete appropriate documentation/reports.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong knowledge and skills in behaviour management techniques.
• Excellent case management skills.
• Strong knowledge of Indigenous culture, spirituality, traditional teachings, ceremony and its application to holistic approaches to mental wellness practice.
• Proficient knowledge and understanding of Indigenous historical accounts, systemic barriers, intergenerational trauma and the impact of colonization.
• Understanding of social-emotional learning.
• Experience working in school-based services an asset.
• Working full-time in the rural partner communities served by CASA Mental Health – Indigenous Services.

Qualifications and Experience

• A degree in social work, child and youth care, early childhood education or a related discipline such as psychology, social sciences, etc.
• Related experience in an educational or mental health setting.
• Lived experience with Indigenous cultural practices and traditional protocol.

Conditions of Employment

• A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
• Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
• Access to a reliable vehicle is required.
