Job Details
Wage range: $44.03 to $56.50
Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day

About the Role:
The Trauma Program nurtures connection and safety in the caregiver-child relationship after experiencing trauma. Children and youth may come into the program via one of three streams: the Outpatient Trauma Clinic, the Trauma and Attachment Group (TAG) or Consultative Services.

The Mental Health Therapist will:

 
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for assigned children and youth.
  • Develop individualized and family treatment plans in conjunction with the primary team.
  • Formulate diagnoses, when applicable, using the DSM-5-TR and other diagnostic tools.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions to support the patient in achieving therapeutic goals, utilizing a variety of developmentally-appropriate treatment approaches.
  • Facilitate Parent Support Groups and Multi-Family Therapy Groups that are psycho-educational and/or psychodynamic in context, utilizing a variety of evidence-based therapeutic modalities.
  • Contribute to staff knowledge and understanding of provisional program based operations improvement and evaluation.
  • Build specialized parenting skills for caregivers caring for children with exceptional needs.
  • Complete written discharge summaries to referring Therapist and Psychiatrist after patient discharge.
  • Carry out case management functions including convening case conferences, and liaising with community services and other professionals involved with the adolescent and family.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work (with psycho-social intervention designation), occupational therapy or nursing.
  • Active registration in good standing with a professional college identified under the Health Professions Act. 
  • A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
  • Knowledge and experience in supporting the healing of children and youth who have experienced trauma.
  • Knowledge and experience in the following therapeutic modalities: EMDR, ART, sensory motor psychotherapy, somatic experiencing, SMART, DBT/CBT and ARC.
  • Training and experience in play therapy is considered an asset.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Valid Class 5 operator’s license and access to a vehicle. 
Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
