Job Details

Salary: $76,960 – $95,680
Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day
Primary location: Edmonton or Calgary
Union: Exempt
FTE: 1.0 FTE (36.25 hours per week)
Status: Term (two-year contract)  

About the Role
Privacy Advisor acts as subject matter experts and risk evaluators in interpreting and applying privacy legislation, standards and principles in a hybrid electronic information and health-care environment. Privacy Advisor acts as a liaison and consultant to clinical and business areas to ensure and promote the confidentiality of personal information.

The Privacy Advisor will:
  • Provide expert advice to internal staff, physicians and management on privacy legislation with an emphasis on analyzing privacy risk and application of privacy-conscious behaviours into clinical and operations support business workflows.
  • Facilitate and support the completion of privacy impact assessments to evaluate whether programs, services, projects and initiatives comply with privacy requirements and recommend mitigation strategies where necessary.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of CASA-wide privacy education, training programs and privacy awareness campaigns.
  • Review, update or develop policies to ensure compliance with privacy legislation.
  • Determine whether a privacy incident merits an investigation and constitutes a breach of the Health Information Act (HIA) or CASA information management policies.
  • Document and advise on privacy risk mitigation strategies.
  • Liaise with the Office of the Information Privacy Commissioner of Alberta (OIPC) as required.
  • Assist in risk and audit assessments related to privacy, confidentiality and security.
  • Manage and complete requests for health information under the Health Information Act.
  • Maintain awareness of current privacy trends and legislative changes by monitoring federal and provincial legislation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Information Management, Information Science, Health Information Management or related field.
  • A minimum of two years of related information, access and privacy experience in a private or public sector environment or in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity.
  • Canadian Information Access and Privacy Professional (CIAPP), PACC Professional Certification (AAPP, CAPP, MAPP) or completion of the University of Alberta IAPP Program is an asset.
  • Certification in Health Information Management (CHIM) would be an asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of confidentiality, privacy protection, data security and other information privacy and security issues relevant in a health-care environment.
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal privacy legislation and requirements.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of audit and privacy concepts, tools and methods.
  • Demonstrated communications, leadership, facilitation and coaching skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
