Job Details

Wage range: $40.28 to $53.03 per hour
Shift structure: Eight-hour shifts

About the Role
CASA House is a live-in program for teens who need support with significant mental health and/or addictions challenges. Teens stay at CASA House for an average of four months. The program involves parents and caregivers as active participants in treatment. Treatment includes individual, group and family therapy, social and life skills training, and on-site schooling in small classroom settings.

The Mental Health Nurse will:
  • Complete appropriate nursing assessments (physical and psychosocial) to identify mental health concerns and current risks. This includes:
    • Incorporating objective laboratory and diagnostic findings, specialist reports and past history;
    • Performing medication reconciliation;
    • Monitoring physiological parameters; and
    • Monitoring medication side effects.
  • Integrate assessment and other data to establish appropriate long and short-term goals and provide nursing interventions to promote, maintain and restore health.
  • Monitor, evaluate and modify nursing care plans based on effectiveness of interventions and/or changes in condition or environment, in collaboration with the patient and care team.
  • Act as a resource and provide training to team members to assist in their professional development.
  • Participate regularly and constructively in program and clinical team meetings.
  • Identify service delivery improvements and suggest enhancements with the lens of evidence-informed practice and CASA strategic and operational plans.
  • Regularly work with the team, Clinical Manager and Senior Clinical Operations Manager to gather information and implement any required improvements to clinical processes.
  • At the direction of the Manager, work collaboratively with the research department to assist with development and use of performance indicators, critical appraisal of evaluation findings and knowledge transfer.
  • Provide relevant medication teachings.
  • Assist with individual or group therapy.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of three to five years of recent pediatric experience in an ambulatory care setting which has included the care and management of children with mental health problems. Acute care experience in children’s mental health would be an asset.
  • Charge Nurse experience an asset.
  • Must be a member in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta.

Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Must maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) and be physically able to perform all interventions.
