Salary range/Wage range: $66,000 to $98,000
Shift structure: Monday to Friday
Primary location: CASA Fort Road
Secondary location(s): Multi-site

About the Role

The Patient Safety Advisor will:
  • Provide leaders with one-to-one support on patient-related reportable incidents, interpretation, categorization and concerns.
  • Promote and build awareness of patient safety among staff through various methods, including engagement activities (e.g. develop and deliver presentations and education sessions).
  • Contribute to CASA’s Safety Incident Management System (SIMS) development and manage concerns.
  • Onboard existing and new staff onto SIMS and contribute to CASA’s patient safety and roadmap initiatives.
  • Ensure timely collection and interpretation of data, and contribute to reports for required audits.
  • Collaborate with leaders, professional practice leads and staff in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to meet accreditation standards.
  • Act as a key change agent and change management resource throughout the organization.
  • Maintain an understanding of current and emerging trends and best practices in patient safety.

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, Nursing or a health-related field
  • Minimum one-to-two years in patient safety and/or health promotion.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment (hospital, community-based or equivalent) is required.
  • Experience in mental health treatment setting is a strong asset.
  • Experience or training with change management is considered an asset.
  • Education in patient safety provided by a recognized Canadian organization is an asset (e.g. Canadian Patient Safety Officer, etc.).
  • Knowledge and understanding of patient safety principles, terms and best practices.
  • Strong education, instruction and presentation skills. Knowledge of adult learning principles is an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of data, analysis, reporting and recommendations.

Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or exemption on the basis of a protected legal ground.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
