About the Role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Intermediate Accountant will actively contribute to the overall Success of the accounting team. This position supports the execution of Finance functions and plays a key role in assisting with the delivery of timely and accurate financial records and reporting. Attention to detail and organizational skills are required to ensure accuracy and manage deliverables. This position requires the incumbent to act with a great deal of independence and diplomacy, while ensuring confidentiality is maintained when required.

About the Role

Attention to detail and organizational skills are required to ensure accuracy and manage deliverables. This position requires the incumbent to act with a great deal of independence and diplomacy, while ensuring confidentiality is maintained when required.
The Intermediate Accountant will:
- Review accounting records for accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, regulations and statutory legislation, and finance policies.
- Reconcile GL accounts monthly, ensure working papers are complete and ensure appropriate follow-up on discrepancies and variances are discovered and corrected.
- Prepare monthly journal entries such as accruals, expensing from prepaids, leases and corrections as required.
- Keep the chart of accounts up-to-date by creating, modifying or closing accounts as needed.
- Maintain all financial supporting schedules.
- Assist with preparation of month end internal reports.
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations for several bank accounts and investigate variances by working closely with AP and AR.
- Perform stop payments and bank transfers, and set up EFTs in the bank when required.
- Prepare GST filing and other various regulatory filings throughout the year.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of accounting transactions and transaction flow.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner.
- Knowledge of Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience using Sage 300 is an asset.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in accounting or a related field.
- Must have at least two years of full cycle accounting experience.
- Experience working for a not-for-profit organization is an asset.

- A satisfactory Criminal Records Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
