About the Role:

This Mental Health Therapist position was created to deliver specialized treatment and support to children experiencing symptoms of OCD, as well as their caregivers, as part of an exciting and innovative new treatment stream within Core.
The Mental Health Therapist will:
- Conduct comprehensive bio-psycho-social mental health assessments of assigned preschoolers, children and adolescents.
- Develop a treatment plan and formulate a diagnosis, when applicable, using the DSM-5-TR and other diagnostic tools as appropriate.
- Provide therapeutic interventions to support clients in achieving treatment goals, primarily utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a focus on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
- Facilitate CBT-ERP and Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) therapeutic groups for children and parents.
- Carry out case management functions including convening case conferences, and liaising with community services and other professionals involved with the child and family (in particular, the education, social services, justice and health ministries).
- Advocate on behalf of the child and family as appropriate.
- Be an active, contributing member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team whose purpose is assessment, treatment, case review and consultation.
- Follow agency policy and practice regarding admission, discharge and maintenance of health records.
Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in psychology, social work (with psycho-social intervention designation) or occupational therapy.
- Current registration in good standing with a professional college identified under the Health Professions Act.
- A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
- Experience and skills in delivering evidence-based treatments, with specialized knowledge and experience in treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with Exposure and Response Prevention (CBT-ERP) is considered an asset.
- Knowledge and experience supporting families connected with children services and/or family support services is an asset.
- Knowledge and experience supporting the healing of children and youth who have experienced trauma.
- Experience supporting the mental health of children and youth who identify as LGBTQ2S+.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team to build consensus.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records or similar information systems.
Conditions of Employment
- A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
- A satisfactory Child Intervention Check.
- Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
