Wage range: $49.74 to $63.18 per hour
Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day
Primary location: CASA Calgary

About the Role
The Trauma program nurtures connection and safety in the caregiver-child relationship after experiencing trauma. Children and youth may come into the program via one of three streams: the Outpatient Trauma Clinic, the Trauma and Attachment Group (TAG) or Consultative Services.

The Assessment Psychologist will also support the CASA Mental Health Classroom program, a new model for school-based mental health service. The program addresses the need for services closer to students by bridging a child's mental health and school needs, through a coordinated approach by a mental health team and a teacher. CASA Classrooms are delivered in partnership with the Government of Alberta, community partners and school divisions. 


The Assessment Psychologist will:
 
  • Assess and interpret tests of advanced and specialized clinical/psychological services, including cognitive, memory, behavioural, emotional, academic, social, adaptive, personality and executive functioning.
  • Make independent, advanced clinical decisions regarding assessment, treatment and modification of treatment, and regarding discharge of multi-dimensional/complex patients.
  • Effectively triage patients based on their level of need.
  • Interpret assessment results and compile comprehensive psychological assessment reports that address the reason for referral and include appropriate recommendations.
  • Conduct one-on-one consultation with caregivers or clinicians regarding school placement/programming or implications of cognitive abilities on the ability to engage in therapy.
  • Attend school conferences to support the implementation of recommendations and school program planning.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational groups or provide presentations to CASA staff, families or external organizations.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in psychology and formal training in psychological assessments.
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
  • Prior educational and clinical experience in the administration, scoring and interpretation of cognitive, academic, social/behavioural/emotional, executive and adaptive functioning assessments for children and adolescents.
  • Knowledge and experience supporting the healing of children and youth who have experienced trauma.
  • Prior success with high-needs youth with learning disabilities, developmental delay, executive dysfunction or complex needs is an asset.
  • Experience supporting the mental health of children and youth who identify as LGBTQ2S+.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team to build consensus.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records or similar information systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) or Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments (SIVA) training, as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
